Job Description

Join the Movement: Become a Piano Instructor at Oclef

Location: Remote

Work Type: Part-time Contractor

Time: Priority: 3–8 PM Pacific

Pay: $18/hour (starting)

Schedule: Flexible, part-time with growth potential

Start Date: Rolling

Why Oclef?

For starters, we are not just a piano school. We started back in 2015 as a software company with the mission to figure out why 83% (or simply put, the majority) of students drop out of piano in the first 3 years. Although it took us a few years, we learned that the problem was systemic. Today we are the largest online piano school in America.

Conventional lessons, as you know, are based on a once a week model where the teacher works with a child and then hopefully that child practices every day in preparation for their next lesson. Although this may work for about 2 in 10 students, the large majority of students end up not practicing or “practicing” just before their lesson. Once a week and even twice a week, doesn’t work for almost all children.

The child doesn’t practice. Parents are usually unable to help. And teachers are paid to help only once a week. So each week, the child returns with similar problems to the previous week and the lessons become a time to simply review and practice. We call this the “practice” problem. And we’ve designed everything we do at Oclef to solve this problem.

The Role:

As a Piano Instructor, you’ll apprentice directly under one or more Oclef Professors: leaders who run their own micro-franchise studios inside our school. You’ll teach short, focused 1:1 sessions (usually 15 minutes or less), following a clear teaching plan designed to help each student thrive.

This is a contract role with flexible, on-demand hours—similar to a marketplace or gig model. You start with a few sessions and grow as you prove your impact. No guaranteed minimum hours. Note: The best instructors rise quickly and build a real, lasting career as professors.

Who We’re Looking For:

  • Musicians and educators from all backgrounds, whether you’re just starting out, finishing college, or a seasoned university professor
  • People who want to be part of a lasting change in piano education
  • Coaches who love working with kids (ages 5–18) and believe in daily progress
  • Team players who take feedback seriously and collaborate well
  • Driven, reliable, and eager to learn and grow

What You’ll Get:

  • $18/hour with flexible hours, priority given to availability 3–8 PM Pacific
  • Fully remote work — no commute, no traffic
  • Mentorship from experienced professors who want to see you succeed
  • Clear career path: many instructors become Professors running their own micro-franchise, earning well into six figures, more than nearly all university music faculty salaries
  • A chance to be part of something bigger than yourself: a movement transforming how kids learn music every day

If you’re ready to join a team that’s changing the future of piano education, apply now using the LinkedIn Quick Apply button. We want to hear from you.
